The difference between the Mini, Midi and Maxi

"Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it" - Yves Saint Laurent

Mini  Dress

The shortest of the three main style of dresses, with the hemline finishing anywhere above the knee. A versatile length, which can achieve both casual, and sweet, as well as fun and sexy dependant on the accessories. Some silhouettes and styles of this length are; Shift, Sheath, Wrap, Bodycon, Babydoll and Slip to name a few.

This length is best suited for more casual or social functions, some may say best to avoid any events with smart casual or cocktail dress requirements but each to their own. You do you, baby!

Accessorise this length with sandals, or sneakers with casual social occasions, for those evening events flaunt those legs with heels and ankle boots, or even knee-high boots for a more daring look.

I've personally always enjoyed wearing this length with stockings, boots and my faithful leather jacket for the cooler nights out with my partner.

Midi Dress

The Midi is the second shortest of our three main lengths, with the hemline starting below (or at) the knee and ending before the ankle. The midi-length can range from casual to elegant depending on the additional styles. One thing you'll notice with the midi length is the broad range of necklines, hemlines and different bodice styles on offer. Some silhouettes that support this length are; A-line, Cocktail, Bodycon, Handkerchief Hemline -  to name a few.

The negative with this length would be the disadvantage of the women's height. Some women (like myself), have short legs, and are best to avoid any hemlines finishing around their mid-calf. Either wear those styles with strappy heels to give the illusion of longer legs, or opt for a hemline that ends above the mid-calf.

This length is best for professional work dresses, smart casual, weddings and almost all social occasions dependant on the style.

Maxi Dress

The Maxi is the final of our three main lengths, ending below the ankle. The Maxi is suited to many social and formal events dependent on the individual style, similar to the midi Some of the silhouettes / styles that this length supports: Harem hem, Trumpet / Mermaid, Bouffant, Ball Gowns and Summer Maxi Dresses to name a few.

Again, like the Midi Dress, the women with shorter legs need to be considerate of the hemline length. Some floor-length dresses may be too long and require to wear high heels to protect not only the bottom of the dress but also yourself from falling.
